David Morton, age 76, of Danville, passed away on February 14, 2019 at his country home surrounded by his loving family. David was born February 10, 1943, in Kansas City to the late John William and Catherine Joan (Connelly) Morton. The family moved to Indianapolis in 1955.
Dave married Jo Ann Koeberlein on May 22, 1971 and the couple raised four beautiful daughters.
Dave served in the United States Air Force from 1963 – 1967, when he was honorably discharged. After his service, he worked as an air traffic controller in Indianapolis, a career that he cherished. From there he went on to obtain a degree in accounting from Marian University and was employed by the American Legion.
Dave had no fear of tackling any kind of project – whether it was house, car or motorcycle related. A lifelong learner, he was frequently referred to as a jack-of-all-trades and craftsman. Friendly, outgoing and welcoming, his winning smile warmed many hearts.
He was an adventurer by nature and spent hours planning cross-country trips on his Honda motorcycle. His greatest joy came from family and playing with his 19 grandchildren. The pool he built was the site of many happy family gatherings.
Dave was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville.
Survivors include Dave’s wife Jo Ann, daughters Michelle (Tony) Nowak, Howard, WI; Monica (Matthew) Wadler, Greencastle, IN; Maria (Wayne) Fancher, Franklin, IN; Megan (Doug) Riggs, Danville, IN; brothers Michael Morton and Paul Morton, nineteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 18 from 5 to 8pm at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield, IN. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 19, at 11am at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, IN. There will be an hour visitation, beginning at 10am, prior to mass. In hopes of helping others experiencing prostate cancer, Dave’s wish was for his body to be donated for medical research at Indiana University School of Medicine.
