Maryknoll Student Essay Contest:
The essay contest has two divisions: grades 6-8, and 9- 12. Prizes in each division are $1,000, $300, and $150. See the bulletin board at the top of the stairs for more details about the essay subject, submission and deadline!
Today is the final class of the first semester. We will break for three weeks for Christmas, and resume on January 7th.
You can see photos of the young disciples preparing to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in the narthex. Thank you for your prayers on their behalf; now let’s reach out to them when we see them at church and greet them and encourage them and let them know their parish family loves them!
Thank you for the donations of plastic bags for the Thanksgiving service project. We will not be collecting more bags until we can get our current supply processed.
Have you ever thought about taking part in a mission trip to help others in need? Nazareth Farm, in West Virginia, is a Catholic community which invites volunteers to join them for a week to help provide for the housing needs of the rural poor. Adults and families can benefit from this experience, just as our teens did on their trip to eastern Kentucky not long ago! See the information posted on the stairwell bulletin board, and contact Matthew when you are ready to invest your time and effort on behalf of “the least of these.”
The RE department is looking for people to witness to our young disciples about the impact of the sacraments of reconciliation or the Eucharist in their lives and why it is important to them. We will schedule a 2-3 minute talk with one class of students and perhaps answer a few of their questions.
Help the RE Students Help the Homeless
The elementary religious education classes will be making fleece blankets for the homeless this winter as a class time service project. The materials will cost $150, and we are seeking donations to help us purchase them. Please look for the donations box in the narthex and give just a little bit in thanksgiving for your comforts this Advent. If every parish family were to give $1 we would gather enough to make twice the number of blankets!
